Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between mean and median?
The mean is the sum divided by the count — it represents an even split but is pulled toward extreme values. The median is the middle number of the sorted list — half the values sit below it, half above, and one outlier barely moves it. Reporting both makes it obvious when a few extremes distort the picture.
How is the median defined for an even count?
When the list has an even number of values, the median is the average of the two middle numbers after sorting. For example, the median of 1, 2, 3, 4 is 2.5.
Do empty rows affect the result?
No. Rows you leave blank are skipped entirely, so you can add rows in advance or delete values without breaking the calculation — as long as at least one number remains.
Can I enter decimals and negative numbers?
Yes. Any finite numbers work, including negatives; the mean, median, sum and count all handle them normally.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
