About HohoTools
HohoTools is a collection of free online tools for everyday file work — compressing images, converting formats, merging and splitting PDFs, counting words, generating QR codes, and more. Every tool runs entirely in your browser, in English and Chinese.
Why we built it
Most "free online converters" work the same way: you upload your file, wait in a queue, watch an ad, and hope the server sends it back — then wonder where your file went and how long it will be kept. We kept running into this with files we actually cared about: contracts, ID scans, unreleased designs, personal photos.
The fix seemed obvious. Modern browsers are powerful — JavaScript and WebAssembly can compress, convert and analyze files right on your device. So that is how HohoTools works: the tools are code that your browser downloads, and the files never leave your computer or phone.
How our approach to privacy is different
- Nothing to upload. Your files are processed on your device. We never receive them, so we cannot store, read, or leak them.
- Nothing to sign up for. No account, no email, no login — open the page and use the tool.
- Cookieless analytics. We look at aggregate traffic without cookies or individual tracking.
- Free, supported by ads. Advertising (Google AdSense) is what keeps the tools free; you can opt out of personalized ads, and our Privacy Policy explains exactly what that involves.
We are honest about the trade-offs, too: because processing happens on your device, very large files depend on your device's memory, and if you lose a result we have no copy to give back. Local-first tools put you in charge — including of the risks.
What's next
We are growing the toolkit across image, PDF, text and everyday utilities, in both languages, with the same rule everywhere: if it can be done locally, it will be done locally.
